5 Fun Fall Activities In Asheville NC

There’s something about being up here in the mountains of Western North Carolina which tends to bring out the explorer in people. Our area is alive with tourist attractions, outdoor activities, fun things to do, unique events and a wide variety of culinary treats—and you may even find a few surprises! Want to know how to safely identify, appreciate and savor wild mushrooms and plants? These 5 fun fall activities in Asheville NC are worth investing your time to explore while you stay at Wildberry Lodge.

Beercaytion Anyone? Many of Asheville’s breweries are open with outdoor seating and social distancing in place.  Visit one or more of our over 44 different breweries, cideries and/or meaderies.  Many of the locations also welcome your furry friends to “hang out” with you too.  For a complete list of brewhouses, visit here.

Explore the River Arts District (RAD) of Asheville:  The area was originally an industrial zone with many old, aging, and empty warehouses. We know you’re thinking, “sure, I want to go traipsing around old warehouses…right”. But, as they say in real estate: location, location, location! Sited on the banks of the French Broad River, these old warehouses have a prime spot with easy access, and pretty awesome scenery to boot! Over the last twenty years, many of the warehouses have been rehabilitated to offer artists large spaces and cheaper rent.  Today, you can visit artists while they work, take classes or simply acquire a fine piece of handmade craft.  Walk the more than two square miles that make up the district or pre-plan your exercise by reading more about the area here.

Pick Your Own Produce-I Double-Dog Dare You:  All around Western North Carolina, there are many pick-your-own farms from apples to jams and jellies, flowers…even crafts!  It is highly recommended that you contact the orchard prior to visiting just to make sure they are offering what you are looking for.  Great fun for the whole family!

To Market, To Market, To Market We Go: Asheville’s WNC Farmer’s Market is open daily 8-5 from April-October. Set amidst 36 acres overlooking both the Biltmore Estate and Blue Ridge Mountains,  the market features locally grown apples, potatoes, green beans, indigo and green zebra tomatoes, pumpkins and so much more!  Visit the WNC Farmers Market Facebook page to see the many items available for your perusal.

Nature’s Calling: And if you haven’t yet had enough of nature’s bounty, you must experience the North Carolina Arboretum. Founded by Frederick Law Olmstead, the renowned designer of Biltmore’s Gardens, the Arboretum offers acres of gardens and trails for your walking or riding pleasure. Additionally, the highly popular Nature Connects LEGO® display has been extended through November 1st. Kids of all ages will enjoy this unique display featuring 16 large sculptures created using more than 500,000 LEGO® bricks which are on display throughout the gardens.
