This favorite apple pie recipe is a must-bake. I use Granny Smith Apples, but you can use your favorite cooking apple. I also mix the apples sometimes to change up the flavor. Enjoy this sweet taste of Wildberry Lodge at home, and let us know what you think!
Ingredients:
- 2 2/3 C All Purpose Flour
- 2 TBSP Sugar
- 1/2 teas Salt
- 2/3 C Butter
- 6 TBSP Lard or Shortening (cold)
- 4 TBSP Ice Water
- 5-6 Cooking Apples
- 1 TBSP Lemon Juice
- 1/3 C brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 t nutmeg
- 2 TBSP butter
Instructions:

Add Flour, Sugar and Salt to food processor, pulse a few times to mix

Add Butter and Shortening 1 TBSP at a time pulsing the processor between each addition until the mixture gathers into large pea sized clumps

add ice water 1 TBSP at a time until the dough forms a loose clump.

Remove dough from processor and divide it into 1 balls of the same size. Flatten the balls into 4-6 inch disks. Wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F

Peel, core and slice Apples into 1/4" slices; place in large bowl

Add Lemon Juice, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and mix ingredients until apples are coated

Roll out pastry for bottom crust and place in pie dish. Pour apples into pie dish and level into an even layer.

Cut butter in small pieces and place evenly spaced on top of Apples

Roll out pastry top and place over the apples. Trim extra material off and pinch or crimp the edges to seal.

Egg wash the op of the crust and cut in steam vents.

Bake for 15 minutes

Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and bake for 45 minutes

Cool for 20 - 30 minutes
