Wine Poached Plums

This dish is great for a light dessert or breakfast starter. It is also great on the side for a lunch salad. Make sure you use a nice wine for this recipe as the plums will only enhance the depth of flavor (they cannot improve a bad wine).

Cook Time: 20 Minutes
Total Time: 30 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups red wine
  • 3/4 sugar
  • 1/8 tsp powdered ginger
  • 3 slices Orange peel 4 “ long and ¼” wide
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6-9 Plums
  • 1 small container vanilla yogurt
  • Orange zest for serving
  • Mint for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Simmer tighter wine

  2. sugar

  3. ginger

  4. salt – until surgar is dissolved – in 10 to 14” flat bottom pan

  5. Cut Plums in half and remove pit

  6. Place Plums in wine mixture

  7. and cook on low heat for 10 minutes each side – or until plums are tender

  8. Remove plums from liquid and reduce to syrup consistency

  9. add vanilla and remove from heat

  10. Place plum on plate or dessert dish and place 1 tsp yogurt

  11. in center

  12. Spoon syrup over top and Grate orange zest over yogurt/syrup

  13. Garnish with mint
